A REMBERAMBLE FOR SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2025
(There is a bug or gremlin in the system this morning. It keeps showing that I have deleted this picture of Daddy from yesterday and replaced it with the image of me and the boyz watching a sunrise.)
It is a very fine Saturday morning taking shape here in the Greater Garfield-Canoochee Metropolitan Area. It was chilly overnight and pleasant, and we awoke to a fine sunrise, and took a quick walk with the boyz. I have learned since the weather turned cooler that lil Merle has not a drop of wolf or husky blood in him. While the babee loves cold, lil Merle, not so much. I see videos of Chihuahuas shivering in the cold, but babee Conway has never been cold, not once. But me, ole deddee, gets cold like lil Merle. Getting back to the nice sunrise, I will add a picture here from this morning.

This morning's sky was quite nice.
Are "arry'a one of ya," still eating Thanksgiving leftovers? I ate all of mine last night. I finished them up, and wanted more. Some of you might recall from early this past week, I was making my wish list of things I wanted, the top one was Mrs. Carolyn Price's
wonderful dressing, and bless Pat, if she didn't make a pan of it and sent it to be part of our family Thanksgiving dinner. It is so good...uhm, was so good. I once said to Mrs. Carolyn at church, that evidently she used the same recipe as my Granny and Mama did making dressing because it was so good. She asked if they made it with corn flakes? Nope, they never did and I had never heard of it, but it is very good. Do any of you make dressing using corn flakes? I reckon it is cornflakes and cornbread, not corn flakes alone. I looked a while back and there are many recipes for dressing with cornflakes. I think I will try making some, I don't have regular corn flakes, but I have a big box of Frosted Flakes*

in the pantry, those should be delicious in dressing. I have Captain Crunch** too, I might fix some at Christmas. You might scoff but Cap'n Crunch is a corn based cereal.
Some folks are gathering their cane, and about to start grinding the cane and making syrup, some have finished already, others will be grinding cane and boiling syrup for a while yet. I have mentioned before that making cane syrup is one of the very few traditional activities that have not been abandoned. There are a lot of folks making syrup, and it is heartwarming that it is still a common practice.

Pictured here is my Great-grandaddy, James Robert, "Bob" Peebles, at left, and my great-uncle Robert making syrup. I apologize for the poor quality image. I am sure most of you have seen this image before, as I have used it more than once. Speaking of syrup, I am reminded of how adamant many folks are concerning cane syrup, and other southern foods, as for cane syrup, they will not eat it if it has corn syrup or anything else added to it. Me? It is best as pure cane syrup, but believe me, that does not stop me from enjoying it at all. Another similar anomaly concerns Brunswick Stew, and what is put into it, and it varies by family, and if a pot of stew made by their folks, they feel as if it is set down by God, to either add or not add certain ingredients, and if your stew is altered a smidgen from they way they grew with it, they are appalled and will not eat it, and will declare it is not even Brunswick Stew. Butterbeans, whole kernel corn, some chicken meat, diced potatoes, etc., will be fine for some but others would not eat it and act as if you are offering a demon spirit a jug of Holy Water. They are maniacal about it. Oh, and please if you have any of these "hot house flowers" over for a meal, poll them in advance about the one and only brand of mayonnaise they will let cross their precious goozle. Folks are partisan about mayonnaise brands and the King James Bible, and will suffer no other! Me? Yes, it is KJV only for me, but I will eat the following brands of mayonnaise: Duke's, Hellman's, Sauers, Blue Plate, and almost any brand other than Kraft. Kraft makes "middle of the road," bland foods for the masses. Okay, 'nuff for the day. Love ya long time...
