IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN GARFIELD
IT'S A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN GARFIELD

At one of the NBIC gaduate houses, the men there have a garden with a scarecrow. Yesterday I waved at it, I felt like an idiot, because that was the third time this week! Scarecrows are rare these days, what we really need are "scare deers," because deer are a big problem, much more than crows. I can remember when rabbits were plentiful and folks tried many ways to keep them from devouring their garden. There aren't many rabbits now.

Have you ever heard old timers refer to a ruckus, as a "rooker," or a bad fight as a "cut'n scrape?" Perhaps cartridge spoken as "cottidge?" Maybe call a partridge a "pottige?" Hooray as "hooraw?" Dubious as "jewbus?" A car accelerator as a "foot feed?" Skillets called "spiders?" Stove burners referred to as "eyes?" Call a kettle a "kittle?" "Sodie crackers?" "Cooking soda?" "Well teakle?" "Wedding tackle?" That term always cracks me up, so I will end with it.

Only a week or so ago, we had cool mornings, and mild afternoons. Those are gone now and it is hot! I could not survive without air conditioning. Even "mister outdoors," lil Merle, now wants to tend to his "bidness" and then come back inside, babee Conway too, and yeah, me, I do my bidness and come back in. One last thought and I will close, many folks think that it is cooler "in the woods," but it is not. It is hot in the woods too.
