Tuesday slipped in, and I mean slipped in, I felt something slippery between my toes, and seein's how I ain't got yard chickens any more, I deduced right off that it felt like chicken doodie, but it had to be Tuesday I had stepped in instead! In other words I had "cut my foot" on Tuesday, not on shicken chit. I hope each of you are country enough to know what "cutting you foot," meant way back when. If not, I will clue you in. Younguns went "barefooted" as we called it.
If ya stepped in doodie, and some old poot was watching, when you looked at your toes in disgust, they would laugh and ask, "whatcha do, cut ye foot?" And they would laugh as if you had never heard that and as if they had never told it before. Ah, the good ole days. Old timers had sayings for every occasion it seemed. It was so very common for them to do as I said while ago, and repeat those old "gems," a thousand and one times, and find it as funny as the first time.
On another related subject, I wonder if old men still say, "here, pull my finger," or "I got your nose," or "rooster, pullet, hen, now what did I say that was," do they still show little ones how, "the mule eats corn," how about, "there was an old lady who went to town," or the many others we grew up on?
I am reminded of my time in 2008-2009 at New Beginnings in Christ, when I assigned the guys their work duties. Donald Atkinson had a couple of men working on the farm for him.
They were not in the program, they simply worked for Donald. One was named Charles, and he was about as "old timer" as you could be. He was plowing up peanuts in a field that had lain fallow for three years, so it was slow going, and the plow had to be worked on constantly to remove the roots and saplings from it. I hardly ever second guessed Donald, but it was a bad choice to plant peanuts on "new ground."
There was a young man in the program who I had known his entire life, so I put him with Charles to help him be able to plow the peanuts up. That first morning, I said, "you are going to love Mr. Charles today, but tomorrow less so, and by the day after tomorrow, you will be begging me to assign you elsewhere." That was exactly how it transpired. Hearing the same things over and over and expected to chuckle over each one, it could drive a good kid to contemplate homic-de.
Bless his heart.
Well, since I am late with this one today, let me finish with an update on my medical situation. I had cardiac and pulmonary testing done last week, as well as a two-night in home sleep study. I saw Dr. Brown yesterday for the results. I have mild COPD, congestive heart failure and evidently a blockage in my heart. I must go for testing at the cardiac catheterization lab in Statesboro, he told me he wanted me to have Thanksgiving, but then have the cath lab done next week.
The Statesboro Cardiologist's office called this morning and I was mistaken in that I thought they would do the test on Monday, but I will see the doctor there on Tuesday morning, and then they will schedule the test. Those folks over there are good folks, as I have been a heart patient of theirs before. Over all, I am in good hands, there is no better cardiac/thoracic surgeon/slash family doctor in the United States than Dr. Randy Brown. Between him and the fabulous Claire Ault at Twin City Family practice, I will be fine.
I know folks who have a cardiac catheterization are sometimes taken directly in for heart bypass or stent placement. I did not want to do that with only a few hours to prepare. I have to cancel my cataract surgery, because I do not want to have eye surgery in Augusta the day after cardiac catheterization, it would be too much to have done in that time frame. Social Security is still a no-show, but hopefully I will start getting SS benefits soon.
My situation is worrisome with still no income, so pray for my physical healing and a resolution to my financial situation. I know many of you are going through things much more serious than I am, so I we will pray for and help each other, as family should, and our GF&FL family is a blessing from God. We love y'all...
