A REMEMBERAMBLE for Tuesday February 24, 2026
A REMEMBERAMBLE for Tuesday February 24, 2026

Hello, wow it is good to see you once more, and hey, you too, I appreciate y'all coming. I know most of you come here to see if it will be wackiness, foolishness, Godliness, historically inclined, weather related, or of interest mostly to four legged critters. Some days it is all of the above and more...or less. I called fabulous Clair Ault's office today to see if I could come by and get a Vitamin B-12 shot, but I got tongue-tied and asked Kim if I could get a "V-12," shot. We had a good laugh over that one. I told them that actually if they had a V-12 shot I would rather get it than a measly B-12 shot.

V-12 just has a much more potent ring to it!

It is good to laugh at ourselves. Years ago, the woman I was with...(no names, ages, or details to be given, except to say, it was not Judy)...saw an ad for someone selling bob-tail kittens, near Swainsboro. She decided to call about them and get a couple of them. She dialed the number and when the lady answered she got tongue tied and asked, "do you still have the bob-tat tittens?" I could not stop laughing and she just hung up, she was so red-faced and flustered. She decided to wait until the next day and call back so they would not know it was her. She practiced asking about the kittens so she did not get it garbled up a second time. The lady answered and she asked, "do you still have kittens for sale?" The lady asked her sweetly, "do you mean the bob-tat tittens!?" She had it on speaker (landline where you could place the receiver down and touch the button for speaker) and I was so glad I heard it, because even before she quickly hung up, I was already rolling around laughing hysterically. She was not rolling around laughing, not at all.

The bob-tat tittens!!
The bob-tat tittens!!

So, you are wondering if she ever got the kittens. Yep, I called the next day and went to get them, she stayed home. I will finish this morning with a topic that many of you might not be at all familiar with. I will begin discussing these by adding a photograph of some of the things I am about to discuss.

Owners of vintage railroad Maintenance of Way (MOW) vehicles, called "speeders," join clubs that organize adventures where members see America by rail, a little bit at a time, and a bit on the slow side.
Owners of vintage railroad Maintenance of Way (MOW) vehicles, called "speeders," join clubs that organize adventures where members see America by rail, a little bit at a time, and a bit on the slow side.

Over the years railroads depended on small conveyances to allow the MOW workers to travel the rails to keep the rights of way, ballast, ties, trestle timbers, and rails in good repair. without having to run expensive locomotives to ferry the workers about on the home rails. Of course we have all seen the old hand cars with the pump action that propelled a crew of MOW men down the tracks, and they were a great invention, but the work gangs had hard work to do, in addition to propelling themselves and their tools for mile after mile by working the "pump." When the internal combustion engine "age" arrived the railroads were quick to build or buy "doodlebugs," and "speeders" to take the men and tools wherever they were needed. Several companies made them, and many railroads built their own. Of course, these "buggies" became collectable and clubs formed to bring those folks together for excursions in various places on many different railroads. I was fortunate to see a few over the years where a club had dozens of members all on an excursion together having a great time. I recall a club with many members and their various iron steeds passing through Swainsboro and I got the chance to meet to some of them and check out their fine rides. Okay, I gotta go. I love ya, come back soon.
