A REMEMBERAMBLE, DECEMBER 2, 2025

When I paused to contemplate the day of the week this will be, and Tuesday materialized, it set the Moddy Blues to playing in the stereo system in my head. particularly "Tuesday Afternoon." The Moody Blues made some of the most unique and beautiful music ever heard during the rock and roll era. In my younger years I was a very good singer, and had a great range, singing tenor -and bass, and had a knack for imitating the singers of the songs that I was listening to.

I could sound like Simply Red's Mick Hucknall, and et every note dead-on. The same for the Moody Blues, and others. But, decades of smoking, and being a drunken pain pill addict, damaged my voice and in recent years this recurring trouble with my throat has driven the nail in the coffin of my singing ability. I have an eclectic love for music, and loved pop and rock into the late 1980s when for me, rock and roll died, or rather was murdered.

T'was murder quite foul. I was born with an abiding love for folk music, bluegrass, and bluegrass gospel, and there was always room in my heart for a good bit of country music and traditional gospel. Hang on to your hat, but some classical music is the best music ever. To me, the most beautiful piece of music in the world is "O mio babbino caro" from Puccini, sung by Kiri te Kanawa, and a close second is the same piece as sung by Montserrat Caballe.

Now, you may hear some sweet lil ole ladies clutch their pearls and hit the floor, but I really liked Nellie's Country Grammar CD, yep, hip hop! Grab the smelling salts. Okay, let's get on a subject less likely to cause apoplexy. I ran across a note in my phone...I have 530 notes in my phone...from this week two years ago when I asked our group members in what years their parents were born. Of course, there was a very wide range due to great variance among the ages.

But we had a group member whose father was born in 1873. Yessir, 1873, now that was the winner hands down, by a longshot. Eight years after the Civil War! Now, let me toss this in, as it was rolling about in my noggin. Lil Merle has a small sore on his chest/neck area that is not healing up, I think it was made when he ran through the cotton, those stalks are "mean" and can cut like a dagger. It gets reinjured from doing the same thing over and over, running through the cotton.

So I remembered the "purple stuff," we once used to heal kids, old folks, dogs, cats, bats, hogs and cows. The purple stuff always worked well. So I checked to see if Kent stocked it and was glad to find that he did. I put it on lil Merle's sore spot, and on my inner lip where I had bitten my tongue, and the place is not healing because I keep biting it again and again. It is more properly called Gentian Violet.

You may recall that I have an appointment with DR. Lynn at Statesboro

Cardiology this morning at nine o'clock.

Vintage Crescent Nail/Staple Puller

I will finish with this story from a few years ago, that I related to my friend Kent Kicklighter who owns Twin City Drugs and Pembroke Pharmacy, in his store today. This was back years ago when Mr. Lee Rountree owned the drug store. He had a nice old clock collection, and liked old things, and he and I liked to discuss old items of all sort. One morning as I was getting out from my truck to get a prescription refilled.

I remembered that a friend had given me a vintage nail puller by Crescent like the one pictured here. I decided to bring it in to ask if Mr. Lee was familiar with this tool. I had it in my hand, holding it by one end, sort of swinging it back and forth, proud of my "prize." Well, after entering the store, I soon realized that I was quite alone in the drug store. I thought for a minute the rapture had occurred and had not made the grade.

Then as an employee peeked from behind the shelving in the pharmacy section. Then another and those who had "broke camp," had peeked inside to see if it was safe to return. Then I realized I had cleared that store out, by giving the impression that I was carrying an AK 47, or some such type of weapon. Gosh, was my face ever red. Now and then I think my best bet would be to just stay home for the duration. Have a blessed day please.

These days you can not go around brandishing lethal objects... But you can certainly appreciate any and all music. I'm funny about music, I like music that I can sing a long with, or that's catchy...the Peer Gynt Suite was catchy and memorable. I might just go "dum-de-dum-de-dum- dum-dum" with things like that, but I remember it. I like lots of stuff, too, even Shaboozy.

I know what it's like to get injuries that don't get much better...the black tarry salve is my "go to" for things that don't seem to want to get well. Doctors are sometimes helpful and other times less than what we hoped for. I'm learning, doesn't matter how old you are there are things t…
