Good Morning, Friends

A BRIEF THANKSGIVING REMEMBERAMBLE Nov. 27, 2025

Happy Thanksgiving my friends. We almost all will overeat today, me included. There is something about a special dinner like these that sets us in good stead to face it with a heightened appetite. I wish I had Mrs. Carolyn Price's wonderful dressing for tomorrow, and some old time pickled peaches, some of the sourdough bread Judy made, some of the churn of fresh butter I used to churn for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner at her daddy, J. W. "Pa" Walden's house.

What a good man he was. It was always wonderful to be in that family and in that household. How his girls loved him, and so did I. He is in Heaven, and Mama and my step-Dad Perry Kennedy, Daddy and Nell, our beloved step-mom, Granny and Grandpa Morris, Grandma and Grandpa Peebles, our brothers Paul and Joseph, and sister Carol, our many, many aunts and uncles, and so many others are long gone.

The siblings far-flung, and divided by quarrels, many unable or unwilling to abide with the other. It is such in most families. You too can see the faces at your table that once graced the table with their presence. We are not alone, our parents and grandparents suffered likewise the losses, and when you sat at the table they loved having you there, but I can assure you they saw the ones who once sat in your place, in their mind.

You know the names, but they knew the hearts of them, they loved and longed for them yet, even as they loved you being with them. I like that Thanksgiving is not a gift giving holiday, and few are those who can pass the day by and not be thankful for something. Turn your eyes to Heaven and thank God for it all, the good and the bad, as it is what brought you here today, to where you are in life. I hope your day is one that you can smile over tonight as you lie down, as you close your eyes, and feel God in your heart.
