HE DENIED HIS SON, AND I WILL FOREVER WONDER WHY!
It was probably 1978 or 1979, and a friend asked if his friend could fish in our pond. I did not know the guy, but he told me that he was full time with the National Guard, and wanted a place to take his young son fishing.
Well, I was sold on that immediately, a man serving our country, and taking time to do things with his little boy, was a shoo-in. He came the following Saturday morning, and as I often did, when the man drove up and then down to the pond, I walked down there to be a good host, and speak to him to make them welcome.
When I saw him and his little boy, side-by-side, I smiled and said, "well, you can tell he is certainly your little boy, because he looks just like you," and he did, uncannily so. The "father" went into a rage in an instant, and said, loudly, "well he ain't mine, he is adopted!" I had never then, nor since wanted more to hurt a man very badly like I wanted to do so to him. In my eyes he was subhuman, less than a man.
Why would any man say that in front of the child. Let me finish this, as I am getting mad all over again. I would like even now, these almost fifty years later, to run up with him. I don't think I ever hurt more for a child than I did that little boy right then. He is a more than grown man now, and I hope the world has been good to him.
As for his "father" I cannot bring myself to wish good things upon him. I know that is un-Christian, but you did not see that little boy's face, neither did he, but I did. I still see it. ..... wade

Words hurt more than a bullet and are more long-lasting.. No excuse for the "father's" actions but makes me wonder what was really behind his raging anger. . Did he remain fishing, or make a fast exodus to your fishing pond? It's better you did not add trauma to the little boy's life.
