GEORGIA FOLK AND FARM LIFE - As August winds down and the first hints of fall creep in, folks are still thinking about what to put on the supper table. Here are five meals that sure sound scrumptious for this time of year:
Fried Chicken with Creamed Corn & Biscuits Golden brown chicken, hot out of the skillet, served with sweet creamed corn and fluffy biscuits fresh from the oven. A simple feast that never disappoints.
Country Ham, Red-Eye Gravy & Grits Nothing says Southern comfort like salty ham with a spoonful of red-eye gravy poured over creamy grits. Add a side of collard greens, and you’ve got yourself a plate of home.
Fresh Garden Peas, Okra & Cornbread Supper Late summer gardens still give us peas and okra, and when paired with skillet cornbread, it makes for a light but satisfying meal straight from the soil to the table.
Beef Roast with Potatoes & Carrots Slow-cooked in the oven until it falls apart, this roast fills the whole house with an aroma that calls everyone to the table. Add some brown gravy, and you’ll have folks going back for seconds.
Catfish Fry with Hushpuppies & Slaw Crispy catfish fillets alongside hushpuppies and tangy slaw — that’s a true Friday night treat in Georgia, perfect for gathering neighbors or family around.
Now we’d love to see what’s cooking in your kitchen! Post a picture of your own supper in the comments below. We’ll pick a favorite and include it in our menu suggestions for next week.
So, hey ya’ll…what’s for supper?
