GEORGIA FOLK AND FARM LIFE - A rememberamble for Monday, August 25, 2025 ..... Good Monday morning to each of you, we hope you had a very good weekend. I did, and so did the boyz.
I ran some local errands Saturday, and yesterday, I attended our David Emanuel Academy graduating class of 1976, forty-nine year class reunion. Sadly, it was just a bunch of old folks!
I jest, it was so good to be there, to reminisce, to remember, and check-in with each other about then and now. Fay Stapleton Burnett organized it and planned it to be a simple get-together, no stress, just as if it was a family reunion.
The fact that many of our teachers came also, made a good event better. BUT, OF COURSE!! But of course, my getting there just had to be a comedy of errors, that made me quite late, with a funny story to relate, so here goes:
The event was held at a friend of Fay's clubhouse, and she had emailed each of us the address. It is very close to her old farmplace where she and Brock live part of the time, and some time at their lake house.
Just as I was approaching Fay's house, they were not home of course, but were at the event not far away, my phone died. I set about looking for one of the multitudes of iPhone charging cables I own.
There was not one anywhere in my truck. I had enough iPhone charging cables at home to tie down a bull elephant, but not one cable was in my truck. I was in a most modern predicament, my phone was dead, and it knew where the reunion was to be held, but it was snoozing.
So close, yet, so far away. I drove ten miles over to my buddy Chris Clifton's house and got one from them, then drove the ten miles back to Blanrock Road. Of course, I had been unable to call Fay, and after my phone charged enough to come on, she was at the reunion with her phone off.
I also had put the address into the map app on my phone, one digit off. So, phone was working but to no avail. No one to call and no directions still. I turned around once more at Blanrock Road and remembered that Brock and Fay have video cameras at their house.
I decided to go back there. The plan was to stand in front of a video camera, and like a mime, or a honeybee dancing to give the rest of the bees the address of a patch of flowers.
Yep, I was going to do a Kabuki dance on their lawn. But, it was one of those rare moments when a synapse fired off in my brain and it suggested that I simply drive down the nearby Blanrock Road, lest I was seen dancing on Fay's lawn.
Lo and behold as I rounded the curve, there it was, a sign with mylar balloons dancing around it. I will end here, it was a great time. Thanks Fay, and thanks to all who were there.
It is nap time for ole uncle wade and we three boyz!
