A REMEMBERAMBLE for OCTOBER 16, 2025
A REMEMBERAMBLE for OCTOBER 16, 2025

I do hope you never tire of me telling you, "good morning," as it means a lot to me, more than you know. Let's jump right in, and let me ask you a question, do you enjoy breakfast food for supper? Well, I am sure you do, because I never heard of anyone who didn't. A couple more, do you prefer fresh pork sausage or smoked pork sausage? I started to ask if any of you did not like bacon, but I would rather not know it, if you do not like bacon. Yes, if you do not like bacon, that's something even the Lord doesn't need to know.

Harvey posted a photo of a mink, and several had no idea there are minks in Georgia. There are a good many other animals in Georgia that many do not know we have. We have minks and weasels, but they are nocturnal and secretive, so you rarely see one. There are elk, and ruffed grouse in north Georgia. We also have ground hogs, and most folks have always referred to them as, "whistle pigs." One that surprised me the first time I saw one, as I had no idea they were here, and that was a chipmunk/ground squirrel.

My mama was in the Hughston Clinic, where she died, and one day when I was visiting her, I went outside to smoke a cigarette. As I was doing that, I glanced down and lo and behold, beside my foot was chipmunk. They are quite common but that was my first time seeing one or even knowing of them being here. Are you familiar with hellbenders? Folks called them mudpuppies years ago, but they are properly referred to as salamanders. Okay, I am making a lane change now, and we will talk of other things.

Years ago I was working for a logger and a co-worker was an abrasive, not overly bright, and aggravating man. To show how difficult he could be, once when I needed to tell him something pertaining to work, I set out to call folks who knew him to see if they had his phone number, none did, then I called a couple of his brothers, they did not know his number, nor did his mama. That says a lot about you if nobody you know cares to have your telephone number.

One day he was telling about something he saw on the news, involving a car that had drugs hidden in steel boxes that were welded under the car. He said, "they had a bunch of that old "hishhash," (hashish) in those steel boxes, and they were completely sealed with welds. According to him, the car was a "Hugo," (Yugo), and of course I had to chime in right then and say, "yeah, they call them Hugos because they are made in "Hugoslavia."

It was one of those rare times when he agreed with me, and assured me that I was right, but of course he said he knew it already. Also according to him, The law tried to stop that little Hugo car, because as the exhaust had heated up after driving a long time, and the heat from they car caused the "ole mess of hishhash," to get hot and then the smell of the hishhash could be smelled a half-mile away. I wondered how the smell got through those welded steel boxes, but I did not ask him.

Then the cops smelled the hishhash smell coming from that Hugo car, engaged the man in a very slow, high speed chase. Those Hugos had tiny motors, so the man was apprehended before too long. Speaking of "dope, and dopes," huhuh, I have one more drug story to tell you this morning. You might not find it funny, but it was hilarious to me. So, here we go, there was a set of brothers who had always been heavily into drugs, especially cocaine. This was in the 1980s when cocaine ruled.

The oldest brother gave his kid brother two thousand dollars, which would be equivalent to eight thousand dollars today, and sent him to get some cocaine for him. Well, the kid brother asked a buddy to go with him, and after making the purchase, went and hid out and they spent about three days, snorting coke, until it was gone. The older brother David, spent that time trying to find out where his kid brother was, and finally someone told him. They were at a house in the country, hiding from his wraith.

After David found where he was, he called the hospital (this was in the early 1980s before cell phones and the 911 system were available) and told them his younger brother had been beaten in the head with a shovel and needed an ambulance and gave them the location. As soon as he hung up, he tossed a shovel in the back of his pickup, and got there before the ambulance, and beat his brother in the head with a shovel. No, it didn't kill him, but it didn't do him much good either.

Okay, it is nap time, so I hope you know how much your faithfulness here means to me. Thank you.
