A REMEMBERAMBLE FOR SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2025
A REMEMBERAMBLE FOR SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 20, 2025

It is a right nice morning so far, and hope it remains so. I am late this morning, so let's jump right into it. Are you country enough to know the meaning of "nuss?" Have you ever nussed a baby? Have you heard of the "sour belches," or had them? Have you ever had a "foolish feeling," in your head? Do you know the correct name for a "guidewire?" Is it "loaf bread," or "light bread?" Do you have a "nabel?" How about a "goozle," do ya have one?

Okay, let me ask you this, do you remember "counter checks?" For those too young to recall them, I will explain. When I was young, checks and checkbooks were as ubiquitous as bank debit cards are now. Everybody wrote checks, and some of them even had money in the bank to cover them. Huhuhuh. In those days, most merchants had counter checks for customers to use if they ran out of checks or simply did not have one with them.

The counter checks were distributed by the local banks, and had the bank's name on them, you asked a retailer for a counter check for your local bank, and the bank would honor it. Most did not require the person's checking account number. I have told this here before, that when I was a young man, I recall a couple of times using counter checks at a business, that had run out of counter checks on my bank, the Central Bank of Swainsboro.

I asked for a counter check on the Citizens Bank, and they handed me one. I drew a line through the Citizens bank's name, and wrote in "Central Bank." Both checks were honored by my bank. Now, look over here if you are finished reading about counter checks. Are you aware of the invasive insect, the cotton jassid, that is now in Georgia? It is an invasive insect from Asia. It is one more thing that cotton farmers do not need.

With cotton prices already so low it is hard to make a profit from growing it. In 2011, cotton was bringing $2.00 per pound, now it is about 65 cents per pound. Some of y'all need to start planting polyester in your gardens, and make your own double-knit wardrobe. I plan to have a very restful weekend, I honestly do not feel well enough to do much anyway, so I sure am glad I have a couch that loves me, and understands.

The weather forecast is indicating higher temperatures for the coming days, and I long for that autumn chill. I want to catch a whiff of piles of leaves burning. I want it to be cold during high school football games and the county fair, as it was when I was young. Those things were meant to be enjoyed cold, like a tomato or pineapple sandwich. I am just about ready to wind this lil ole rememberamble down.

So let me thank you once more for your faithfulness here. NUMBERS 6: 24-26 KJV
