“Do to others as you would have them do to you.” — Jesus (Luke 6:31)
GEORGIA FOLK AND FARM LIFE - Friends, Wade is in a real bind right now, and he needs our help to get through the next few months. Many of you have already stepped in with prayers, encouragement, and support—and it has made a world of difference.
But until he gets through his cataract surgeries and his upcoming heart procedure, he simply can’t work. Let’s get him healed up and back on the road collecting the stories we love.
This season always nudges us toward kindness, and it also reminds us how many folks are stretched thin. So please know—there is no pressure here. None. Just a chance to live out the Golden Rule together.
As many of you know, the government shutdown hit Wade at the worst possible moment. His birthday is October 31st—the exact day he was supposed to begin receiving his Social Security checks. But because the shutdown was underway, his benefits were delayed before they even started. Then paperwork corrections pushed things back even further. So while he should have a steady income right now, he doesn’t—through no fault of his own.
Add to that the cataracts that have nearly taken his eyesight, his inability to drive (his primary source of income), and his heart surgery scheduled before the end of the year—and the result is exactly what he told me yesterday: his bank account is nearly empty, and he has about thirty dollars in his wallet. Most of us would be panicked. But not Wade.He feels too poorly to worry, so he did what Wade always does: trusted Jesus and took a nap.
And many of you already know this, but it bears repeating: Wade has been beautifully open about the life the Lord brought him out of more than twenty years ago. He doesn’t share that chapter for sympathy—he shares it as a testimony of God’s grace, and he clings to the Lord’s grace every single day. And if any of us had a son or daughter who had been transformed that completely, our prayer would be that fellow believers would surround them with love and help when they found themselves in a valley.
This moment isn’t about his past—it’s about our response to Jesus’s teaching. It’s the Golden Rule lived out in real time. Wade has done the hard work; God has done the heart work. Now, for a short season, he needs the family of faith to help bridge the gap until he’s healed and whole again.
We’re building something long-term to support him. His daily Rememberable writings bring remarkable traffic, and many of you have already subscribed to our email list at GeorgiaFolkandFarmLife.com. As the site grows, it’s our sincere hope it becomes Wade’s stable source of income. He isn’t looking for a handout—he wants to work, and soon he will again.
But for now, he needs a bridge. A simple season of kindness to carry him until he’s back on his feet. If Wade’s stories have lifted your spirits, encouraged you, or simply made you smile after a long day, please prayerfully consider helping him this month. A one-time gift would be a blessing. A small recurring gift would help him until his surgeries are behind him and he’s rolling down the road again.
And truly—if all you can offer is a prayer, that is more than enough.
